To avoid bot traffic, Sharethrough employs a variety of detection systems, both at impression time as well as doing post-hoc analysis. Currently, systems are focused on impression fraud, and not click fraud.
1. Sharethrough employs MOAT's MRC-certified non-human traffic testing on each impression, so that unallowed proxies and bot traffic is filtered out at impression time. These impressions are then removed from the data stream and are not counted.
2. Sharethrough employs post-hoc session analysis to determine if suspicious users are continuously generating traffic within different periods of time, and will additionally filter out bot impressions before they are processed into reporting dashboards.
3. Sharethrough maintains a non-PII user ID sync that can be used to identify suspicious traffic patterns and match against those for future data.
