A third-party tag is a 1x1 transparent pixel that loads on a site visitor's web page in order to track ad performance. Third-party data companies count the number of times the pixels load, allowing them to verify the delivery metrics in the Sharethrough Ad Manager. In order to track your campaign by impressions, you must work with a third-party provider to obtain third party tags.
To ensure the most accurate data, we recommend tags in the form of unwrapped 1x1 image pixels. We accept an unlimited number of tags that can fire on the following events:
For more in-depth information regarding our third-party tag parameters, please refer to our Key Terms.
From the campaign overview screen > Click Manage > Third Party Tags
From the Third Party Tags overview screen, you can begin adding tags to the creatives associated with the campaign.
Click New Tag and select the event you wish to fire your tag (visible impression, click, play, 3 second silent play, etc) and insert your 1x1 pixel's URL starting with two forward slashes.
You can test the tags for errors from within SAM. Click the "Test Tags" button to check for errors:
If the tag being used has an error such as a typo or network issue, the platform will be able to detect this:
However, this test will not notify you if the tag being used is the wrong one. Be sure to clearly label your creative nicknames to make managing tags easier.
From your creative overview screen > Click Manage > Edit Creative > Navigate to Advanced Options
Select the event you wish to fire your tag (visible impression, click, play, 3 second silent play) and insert your 1x1 pixel's URL starting with two forward slashes.
A cachebusting timestamp will be added at the end to ensure that the tag tracks properly regardless of the site visitor's browser settings. Please note that Sharethrough supports only one type of cachebusting code in third-party beacons.
Wherever [timestamp] appears in your tag URL, Sharethrough will replace it with the current UNIX timestamp in milliseconds. This will ensure that all beacon URLs are unique and should eliminate accidental under-reporting. Any other cachebusting tags, like
%%CACHEBUSTER%%? or %n are ad-server specific are not supported by Sharethrough. They will not cause any problems if they are still in the URL but they also will not ensure uniqueness of the URLs.
Here's an example of what a tag will look like after you enter it into the platform:
Once entered, you can edit or remove the third party tag as desired. You may have any number of tags, including multiple tags on the same event.
