Integration of a new placement should always happen on a test page first, we do not recommend trafficking pre-live placements to public facing live pages. This is necessary for the integration process which includes verifying tech is on the page correctly and ensuring it is styled to be native.
Integrating a pre-live placement on a live page can lead to the below issues:
- Confusion to users
- Poorly styled / not yet styled placement causing poor user experience on site
- Incorrect integration could cause load issues for user / crash browser
Tips for setting up a test page
When creating a test page during your initial Sharethrough onboarding, please follow the best practices below:
100% Fill - It is important that the Sharethrough placement appears on the page on each page load. Please ensure that the placement is trafficked to deliver to the test page with 100% fill.
Mirror the Live Site - While the test page does not need to perfectly match the live site, it still needs content that is formatted the same as in the live environment. Many Sharethrough placements inherit much of their styling from the site's CSS, so the test page needs to be formatted accurately.
Accurate Placement Location - To ensure correct styling of the placement, ensure that the ad unit is in a location that represents the live integration.
Accessibility - In order to review the test page, Sharethrough's Publisher Support team needs access. Please whitelist the Sharethrough IP address (126.96.36.199) and provide any necessary login information..
